The Pink Moon rises over the neighborhood

Although I often post my photos of the Full Moon, I rarely catch it low on the horizon. Normally, my images show it high in the sky, with nothing but an occasional cloud to contrast with its silvery light. Well, here's a photo of the Pink Moon making its way just above the rooftops of some buildings.

Given the limitations of both my photographic skills and my camera's technical capacities, capturing this image was not easy. The various lights on the street level kept on interfering with my ability to get a good shot. This one is the best that I got.

Oh well, practice makes perfect. ;-)

Lunacy and the Worm Moon

The first full moon of Spring, also called a Worm Moon, Crow Moon, or Paschal Moon.

It's been a while since last I posted. That seems to be how I start each blog post nowadays. Pretty soon, I'll set up a ritualized opening, something like "Forgive me, father, for I have sinned. It has been x days since my last confession." ;-)

Well, although I've been away from here, I have not been idle. I've got works in motion, new ideas, and innovations to my approach to blogging. Yes, we're getting experimental again!!!

In any case, we've done this routine a few times before, mostly to middling results. But this time will be different!!! I'm a changed man!!! I've got a foolproof plan!!!

Opportunites Presented by the Calendar

If one is going to undertake a project, then it ought to be worthy of one's best effort. This is especially true for “labors of love” which give no material rewards, providing satisfaction only in having done it well. This is the situation that I find myself facing with this blog. I'm writing here merely because I want to share my thoughts and inspirations with the readers, but haven't been doing it as well as I would like. Therefore, it's time to rededicate myself, to return to a regular rate of blogging, to entertain and inform as best as my time and talent will allow.

With the flip of the calendar, I am presented with a new starting point, an opportunity to get back on track. I'm going to be putting back my old features to establish a reliable rhythm of blogging, from Silly Saturday to Friday Flowers, from Weekly Wraps to Monthly Dance Parties. Moreover, my 365 Photo project will formalize the previously haphazard “Image of the Day” posts upon which I have been heavily relying over the past few months.

At least, this is my intent. This is my resolution. I love writing, playing with words, conveying my experiences through prose and verse, even if they frequently drift to the shade of purple. So, I am again committed, dedicated anew to blogging, compelled to do it properly.

I'm feeling a bit better now. A few days of rest has done some good. Nevertheless, I'm just not feeling in the creative mood tonight. I think that I'll call in an early night.

Yet, I do want to wish everybody some happy holidays. I would do it with a festive, seasonal post, but my energy isn't up to the full, exuberant blogging that would be required to do it right. Maybe tomorrow. . .

Although I've been away from this blog, I've been working on improving my photographic skills. Yeah, I still have a long way to go before I'll be satisfied with my technique and vision, but I'm making progress.

Recently, I was able to visit Long Beach's Rainbow Harbor area. The moon, almost full, looming over the jubilant lights of the Pike caught my fancy. So, I took a picture. ;-)

Anyways, I've been promising a "Photo of the Day" style of blogging for a while. Well, stay tuned. . .

Once in a Blue Moon

Yeah, posting has been slow. I've been on a vacation from blogging, trying to get various priorities and obligations of my life in order. However, I couldn't pass up on the opportunity to share a photo of the "Blue Moon" with you all.

I plan on being back banging out regular blog posts next Tuesday. I'm thinking of going more "Image of the Day" heavy, mainly to always have new content up on the front page. My interest in photography has steadily increased into an avid hobby; I really enjoy taking pictures.

Thunder Moon

In spite of the hazy night sky, I was able to catch a decent photo of the (almost) full moon. At this time of year, it's called the Buck Moon or the Thunder Moon. Since I think that the later sounds way cooler, that's what I'm entitling this post. ;-)

I really enjoy gazing upon the celestial lights, but life in Los Angeles means that light pollution prevents me from admiring all but the brightest of heavenly bodies. Well, the Moon is bright enough. So, here's a post in honor of Luna's gentle light.

Los Angeles Art: Opening Night 2012

The 2012 Los Angeles Art Season started tonight with over thirty openings across the city. No, I didn't run myself ragged checking out each one, but I visited a fair number, enough to leave me wiped out for the night, albeit a very satisfied type of tired. There's nothing as fulfilling as fine art.

I've even somewhat updated my LA Art Guide page.

And it's a good thing that we have a "Wolf Moon" on the rise. I can feel its mystic powers strengthening my spirit, readying me to write a whole bunch of art posts for you all. ;-)

The full moon was beautiful tonight.

Yeah, the light pollution in Los Angeles is something fierce, but even the ambient glow of the city couldn't diminish the lunar lustre tonight. Sadly, my photographic skills are not up to sufficient quality to capture it. This photo was the best that I could do.

Oh, well. . . at least we can enjoy some music to celebrate the Harvest Moon. ;-)
