Weekly Wrap: Wednesday #8

John Carter and the Savage Apes of Mars (1971) by Frank Frazetta

Wow! We were busy here this last week, even though it was a holiday weekend. It's been a long time since I last put up thirteen posts between Weekly Wraps. Very nice!

To be honest, it's been a weird mix. We didn't visit any art galleries. We skipped out on Spooky Sunday yet again. However, I really believe we'll get back to covering those vital topics soon. This weekend there are a bunch of art openings. Heck, nearly every gallery in Culver City seems to be hosting an opening this Saturday. Moreover, Para-con is going on at the Biltmore this weekend, so I might have some ghostly goodies for Sunday. ;-)

Also, have you noticed the nifty little "Popular Posts" along the side? I don't know if I like it, but I'm giving it a try. I'll give it a month or so to win me over.

Now, let's get to the posts.

Stilt Man on the cover of Amazing Spider Man v.1 #237 (1983) by Bob Hall

We covered a whole bunch of music this week. We celebrated the birthday of the baroque composer Pachelbel (along with writer Edgar Rice Burroughs) with many versions of the Canon in D. Then we commemorated blues great, Memphis Slim. System of a Down's decade anniversary since the release of Toxicity was noted. Finally, we wished a Happy 60th Birthday to Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders.

Friday Flowers were bougainvillea. Then we went to a dahlia show at the South Coast Botanic Garden.

Although we didn't review any art shows or openings, we certainly noted some interesting art this week. Following up on our birth date celebration of Edgar Rice Burroughs, we looked at some Frank Frazetta illustrations. Then we had a quick view of Jeff Koons' Cracked Egg (Red). Finally, we celebrated the birth date of the great Romantic painter, Caspar David Friedrich. Good stuff!!!

Then we hit some miscellaneous topics. We took note of sidewalk mascots. We wished figure skating marvel, Kim Yuna, a Happy 21st Birthday. We considered aviation history with a few photos of a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star. And we looked at stilt vids and mocked the "supervillain" Stilt Man. ;-)

That's an odd mix, but such weirdness is a hallmark of posts at Paideia. And we wrap it up with our weekly weird image:

Enjoy!!!
