Cityscapes

Los Angeles viewed from a parking structure on Exposition, overlooking the 110 Freeway

For all the photos that I take of local landmarks or buildings, I realized that I don't take many photos of the city itself. So, here are a couple images to redress the situation.

Soup of the Day

Soup of the day, wine, culver city, signage
Soup of the Day: Wine!!!

Well, I don't have much to share today. Composing a decent blog post takes some time and effort, but I'm a bit tired right now, recovering from a terrible night of fitful, anguished semi-sleep. By the way, did you know that people can have allergies to bananas? Yeah, it's seriously unpleasant. ;-)

Nevertheless, I figured we could have a good ol' whimsy post, with a quirky "image of the day" for our entertainment.

Enjoy!!!

Candy Apples

Candy apples featuring images of Merida from Brave

One of the worst things about getting old is giving up on various delicious treats, scrumptious culinary delights that sweetened childhood and granted sugary solace through the trials of early adulthood. Now, as middle age advances, these caloric comforts do greater harm than good. It is a bitter goodbye to my darling desserts.

But diet and exercise are the necessities to a healthy lifestyle. Yeah, I know that I've made these promises here at Paideia before, but this time I mean it. ;-)

We'll see how it goes, but I'm getting too old to keep on eating like a kid. So long, dear candy apples! Farewell, chocolate chip cookies! (Of course, pumpkin pie is still allowed a seasonal visit for the Autumn holidays.)

Something Else to Throw

No Title: Blue Plastic Plates (1999) by Robert Therrien

Recently, I've fallen significantly behind my "one post per day" schedule.

I really think that I can do better. Last year, I would occasionally get close to a two per day rate of posting. I think my "blogging batteries" have been recharging; I'm ready to pick up the pace again.

But, for tonight, I'm reaching. ;-)

Billy Bones' Fancy

Skull and crossbones

Another "whimsy" post for you all. ;-)

Time has been tight over the last few days; it's the norm with holiday weekends, messing up my writing schedules. But I had a good time this year, definitely a change from recent years. Maybe my advancing age is leading me to cherish family time a bit more. In any case, I'm fairly happy with things right now.

So, why the pirate theme? I came across this eye patch wearing skull upon the Men's Room of one of the local dive bars. I think it's an old promo for some Jamaican rum. It looked so cheesy and out of place that I had to photograph it and share with you all.

Arrr, mateys!!!

Bunny Hop

Detail of the cover for Ray Anthony's Bunny Hop record (1952)

Here's to a Happy Easter!!!

To celebrate, we've got a brief whimsy post for you all. ;-)

Alternatively, you can think about this guy:

Detail of Resurrection (1455) by Dieric Bouts, on view at the Norton Simon Museum

And that would be totally cool, but I'd rather hop, hop, hop!!!
