Playin' the "Wrong" Chord
Sidney Bechet, one of the earliest great jazz soloists, was born on this date in 1897 and passed away on this date in 1959. Although he was recorded in 1923, he didn't gain widespread recognition until the 1940s. His erratic temperment was a major reason why he didn't achieve a level of recognition similar to that of his peer, Louis Armstrong.
